Assistant to the Mayor, Village of Great Neck Plaza

The Village of Great Neck Plaza was incorporated on May 3, 1930. The Plaza, centrally located within the Great Neck Peninsula, and by virtue of it being a hub with the Long Island Rail Road's Great Neck Station, contains unique, varied, upscale shops and restaurants found on our main street, "Middle Neck Road."

Great Neck Plaza encompasses a busy commercial district, three parks, as well as residential sections comprised of many multiple dwellings and private homes. Although geographically the Village measures only a third of a square mile, it boasts a vibrant downtown with a railroad station (Great Neck Branch of the Long Island Rail Road), over 260 retail stores and service establishments, 90 multiple-family apartment buildings, 148 single family homes, approximately 40 office buildings, 2 four star hotels, a nursing home, a senior independent living facility and one senior assisted-care living facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft press releases and correspondence for local media.
  • Manage constituent relations by addressing inquiries and complaints from the residents and public.
  • Create content for The Voice, the Village’s quarterly newsletter, and monthly online e-newsletter.
  • Manage the Village’s social media outreach programs; Facebook, Constant Contact.
  • Assist the Mayor with the implementation of the Village’s agenda and day-to-day operations.
  • Coordinate with department supervisors and staff to ensure a unified agenda.
  • Create promotional materials for business community members and residents.
  • Oversee the Village’s Annual Summer Concert Series, including the booking of 10 to 12 acts and fundraising to local businesses to defray costs of the event.
  • Organize Village ribbon cuttings for new retail store openings.
  • Interact with County, State and Federal officials and their staffs to raise awareness of Village matters.
  • Assist the Mayor with special projects and initiatives, as needed.

Must Have Skills:

  • Experience with computer and software applications; Microsoft Publisher, Excel, Access and Outlook).
  • Experience sending email blasts using Constant Contact.
  • Experience developing and posting content on social media platforms; Facebook and Twitter.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks; Ability to prioritize.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Candidates Should Also Display the Following:

  • Ability to operate with integrity and within government standards.
  • Knowledge of government and/or legislative processes.
  • Understanding of state and local government regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Great Neck Peninsula and structure of Villages.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear, straightforward and professional manner.
  • Ability to act with a sense of urgency.
  • Experience with event planning and support.
  • Ability to work independently, but also collaboratively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong social media practices.
  • Great attitude and team player.

Code Enforcement Officer - Immediate Opening

The Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) under the supervision of the Code Enforcement Supervisor performs a variety of technical duties in support of the Village's code enforcement program; monitors and enforces a variety of applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations related to parking. This is an entry level position in the Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) unit. Annual salary $25,000.

Requirements are: High School diploma or GED. Some experience or familiarity with code enforcment is helpful. Driver's license is required.
