The Village Board of Trustees
is the legislative, appropriating and governing body of the Village which
may exercise power to enact local laws and regulations related to zoning,
housing, land use control and any other ordinance to promote the general
health, safety and welfare of the community.
The Board of
Trustees consists of four elected Trustees and a Mayor, who may vote and in
the case of a tie, to cast the deciding vote of the Board.
The Term of office for both the Mayor and a Trustee is two years.
These elected officials can serve an unlimited number of terms.
The Mayor is the
chief executive officer of the Village and the presiding officer of the
Board of Trustees. Since the
Village does not have a separate Planning Board, the Mayor and Trustees sit
as members of a Planning Board for matters and official business related to
the functions of a Planning Board.
The Village
Clerk-Treasurer, whose responsibility is to maintain the official records,
is also the chief financial officer of the Village and is appointed by the
Board of Trustees. Each
March, two Trustees terms of office are open for election as established in
Village Election Law. Every two
years, the Mayor runs for election at the same time at the Trustees in March.
The Board of Trustees meeting are held on the first and
third Wednesday of the month in the Village Court room at 8:00 P.M. and are
open to the public.
The Code of the Village of Great Neck Plaza is
comprised of all of the local laws and regulations related to zoning,
housing, land use control and any other ordinance to promote the general
health, safety and welfare of the community.
